Art’s Kiwanis experience was cultivated in a Kiwanis family. He worked on service projects and fundraisers with his Kiwanian father.  Often attendance at an international conventions was a family affair. This volunteer experience made Key Club a natural transition. Kiwanis experience has been centered with the Kiwanis Club of Westminster, Maryland where Art has successfully filled most club positions in growth, fund-raising, service, and administration over the past 37 years. Additionally, he is a member of the Centennial Internet Club. Art’s leadership has been demonstrated as a Key Club Lt. Governor and numerous positions within the Capital District culminating as Governor in 2007-2008.

Art was elected as a trustee of Kiwanis International in July 2014 in Tokyo-Chiba, Japan. As an International Trustee, he completed his three-year term and counseled nine districts in Europe, Asia-Pacific as well as the United States. These experiences have provided an appreciation of the needs of Kiwanis districts, the potential for Kiwanis service throughout the world, and some immediate needs that he has titled, “The Right Prescription for Kiwanis”.  The prescription is bold, ambitious, and focused on Kiwanis Clubs.  Through International Board committee assignments, he has an even better understanding of the need to focus energy towards membership, club service, and innovative leadership. This focus will result in strengthening Kiwanis through clubs and districts. The role of Kiwanis International must be one of club support, constant messaging, and positive leadership.

Professionally, outside of Kiwanis, Art has practiced pharmacy and successfully managed pharmacy practices for over 45 years. His family pride focuses on his wife Vickie, a President of the Westminster, MD Kiwanis Club, and retired elementary school teacher, three successful adult children and three grandchildren. Art’s extended family is also involved in Kiwanis in a variety of positions. Art and Vickie both thoroughly enjoy promoting the image of Kiwanis while meeting new Kiwanians.

As Vice President, Art’s vision will be to energize the membership toward greater growth, imaginative service, and expanding SLP participation.  This will only be accomplished using the energy, expertise and knowledge of Kiwanis districts.
